Investor Engagement Programme
A structured, discreet programme for listed companies seeking to broaden or strengthen their relationships with UK institutional investors, particularly London‑based long‑term mandates.
Rationale
Many companies already have excellent investor relations teams and experienced corporate brokers. However, there is often a difference between presenting a company and genuinely understanding what institutional investors are trying to discover.
Having worked for many years with UK investment funds, we have seen the questions that determine whether an investor becomes a long‑term shareholder, remains unconvinced, or simply decides not to invest. Those questions are not always the ones asked in formal meetings.
Objective
The programme is designed to help management teams prepare for the real discussion investors want to have, and then to facilitate targeted meetings with appropriate UK institutions whose mandates are aligned with the company’s profile and strategy.
The service is intended to complement, rather than replace, the work of existing investor relations advisers and brokers.
Programme structure
Preparation
- Review the equity story and current investor materials.
- Identify the ten or so issues that professional investors are most likely to raise, whether around strategy, capital allocation, competitive positioning, valuation, governance, clinical development or financial performance.
- Stress‑test management’s responses to those questions.
- Refine presentation materials where appropriate.
Investor meetings
- Identify relevant London‑based institutional investors.
- Arrange a full day (or more) of one‑to‑one meetings.
- Introduce management to investors whose mandates and style are aligned with the company’s profile.
- Support discussions where appropriate, keeping the focus on substance and clarity.
Follow‑up
- Summarise investor feedback from the meetings.
- Highlight recurring concerns, themes and opportunities.
- Recommend actions ahead of future roadshows or capital markets events.
Positioning
The programme is designed for global listed companies seeking to engage more deeply with UK institutions, whether as part of ongoing investor relations activity, a specific strategic transition, or preparation for major corporate events.
